Wondering what it means to get kids moving in schools?
After a fantastic hour talking to Brett, this is what he circulated to his tribe of 5500 coaches and fitness professionals. I was humbled, to say the least!
For about an hour, we talked about shared strategies for:
- Targeting the right type of schools
- Who to contact within the schools
- The type of programs schools are looking for
- How to create a pricing model
- How to create continual value
And more!
Three of the biggest take-aways I had from this interview included:
1. The importance of making the program relevant to the school environment.
2. The importance of contacting the right people at the right type of schools.
3. Consistent communication with teachers, parent groups, and school administration can make or break your program.
To help other fitness professionals bring their programs to schools, we talked about the Pivot to Play® certification.
This self-paced, online certification shares everything you need to make your youth fitness program relevant, valuable, and highly successful with schools.
While physical fitness is a primary outcome of an exercise program, schools highly value both academic and behavioral outcomes as well. Communicating how your program creates these outcomes in teacher and administrator “language” is critical.
That’s why this certification includes:
- The Pivot to Play™ Strengths and Skills System that examines 18 strengths and skills in which children are consistently deficient, then applies them to both classroom and movement/play based activities.
- The Pivot to Play™ Learning Pyramid which applies the Pivot to Play™ Strengths and Skills System to the hierarchy needed for classroom and personal success based on physical movement through play.
- Tools to engage school administrators and teachers with terms they understand and goals for which they advocate for their students.
- Specific resources to remedy common deficiencies (reported by educators) through the application of the Pivot to Play™ Strengths and Skills system. The System helps Coaches design programming to support overcome these deficiencies in a group setting.
- Program templates for keeping 2-10 year old children active, focused, attentive and engaged while maintaining high energy so both fun and safety are achieved with little effort.
When you finish the course and pass all the exams, you’ll gain access to the Pop, Hop, and Rock® programming vault and a license to use the included program design templates, games, and other activities to grow your own program working with schools.
In a nutshell, if you want to work with schools you need to learn how to apply what you know as a fitness professional to the needs of the educators, children, and general environment of schools.
