Description
If we are learning to run, we must learn to walk first. If we are learning to read Chaucer, we must read Dick and Jane first. We must learn to add and subtract before algebra, we must learn to gallop before we can skip, we must learn basic science concepts before we can entertain complex chemistry formulas.
Like other pyramids, The Pivot To Play Learning Pyramid has a wide base representing the foundation upon which all the rest is built, step by step. Securing the skills in one layer is essential before advancing to the next layer. If any piece of the pyramid is unstable, the subsequent layers will be shaky also.
Just remember that your day will be improved dramatically when their day is improved. And it is movement, as shown by our pyramid and my stories, that will fuel your success. Because asking children to sit more, while their bodies are hardwired to move only makes everything more challenging: their learning, their behavior, and your day. Once we give children an opportunity to move their bodies then, when it is time to sit still, they can. When it is time to focus and attend, they can. When it is time to listen, then can.
This workbook and audit help you visualize the importance of movement and big body play to a successful day as you strategize sneaking more movement into transitions, waiting, and classroom time. Plus the lesson plans will help you put it all to work in games that are proven and fun!
