Topic 3: What Does Poor Body Awareness Look Like & How Can I Help?
Clues to poor body awareness:
- Have poor handwriting/challenges with handwriting
- Poor posture, particularly when sitting
- Clumsiness
- Bump into people/things
- Have difficulty with pencil grip/pressure
- Look at feet while running
- Avoid physical activity
- Be challenged with mirror games, copycat
- Have a hard time with a new gross motor skill
- Do not like the dark or to close their eyes
- Move awkwardly
- Seem weaker than peers
- Have proprioceptive challenges
With well-developed body awareness:
- Children move their bodies smoothly
- They recognize their body parts
- They know how to move their body parts
- They have confidence in their movement
