Topic 7: Why Is It Important, What Does It Look Like and How Can I Help?

How do we improve eye-hand coordination? Of course through big body play! And the more we practice it the better it will get — for example:

    • Bowling
    • Hitting a piñata
    • Popping bubbles with hands
    • Bouncing and catching balls to self or with a partner
    • Playing stacking games with cups or cones or bricks
    • Tapping balloons or beach balls in the air
    • Scarf catching games
    • Juggling
    • Tag games
    • Throwing games
    • Lorax v. The Oncelers! This is a great eye-hand coordination game.
    • Working with clothespins

Keep in mind, the bigger and softer the ball the easier it is to catch, so smaller children need bigger, softer balls. Additionally, the more slowly the balls move the easier they are to catch, so balloons are easiest followed by beach balls, light balls then heavy playground balls.
