Level 1, Lesson 3, Topic 3: What is the Core to a Child?

The core is involved with everything we do. When we pick up small, small children, the core keeps us balanced and allows us to move our arms and legs to manage the moving bundle. When we go up the stairs or ride a bike, the movement starts in the core and then drives the legs forward or up. When we swing a tennis racquet or golf club, the movement is initiated with the core as we rotate the upper body over the lower body and send the power and force of that movement into the ball. When we prepare to catch a ball, we brace with the core to withstand the impact. These muscles extend, and flex, they rotate and stabilize. They are truly the “powerhouse.”
