Topic 3: How Is It Transferred to the Classroom, Social Skills and Development?

Like the vestibular system, the proprioceptive system is integral to classroom success. The proprioceptive system works with the vestibular system in understanding the body’s place in the world but it does so by recognizing the force of the world on the body as well as the force the body puts on the things and people around it.

Both the vestibular and proprioceptive systems worked well in the past because children moved. They were neither sedentary nor idle. They were active in big body play and spent hours in play whether it was after school, in recess, PE or dance. One can see how our current culture’s tether to technology and other sedentary activities can lead to challenging behavior. The the answer is easily achieved in big body play.
