Topic 5: Putting It All Together

Push, pull, jump, roll, cartwheeling, bear crawling, dragging a log across the yard, taking the big trash can to the curb. These all help us build the proprioceptive system so we know where our bodies end, what our body parts are doing in relation to each other, how to leave a mark on a page with a pencil and how to tag a friend in a good old fashioned game of freeze tag. This 6th sense was strengthened in previous generations with lots of outdoor, hard play. When kids don’t move their bodies, they can’t learn how to use them or what they can do. All it takes is cheap and easy big body play!
