Topic 4: Children Love to Move

As defined by the Aspen Institute, the 7 fundamental movement patterns and skills we need to build all physical activity are:

  • Throwing
  • Kicking
  • Running
  • Jumping
  • Catching
  • Striking
  • Skipping

Interestingly, mastery of these 7 skills takes place almost exclusively in the preschool years while they are fine-tuned and enhanced in the elementary school years, if children are given ample opportunity to use them.

The Pivot to Play™ Key Strengths & Skills are divided into 4 categories:

  • Perceptual Motor Skills
  • Sensory Skills
  • Strengths
  • Other Skills
